Have you ever had the sudden urge to do something crazy like chop off you hair or plan a last-minute trip around the world? When Moosejaw asked us to be part of the #MyMadness campaign, we immediately connected with the theme. When I met my husband, my family thought I was insane for leaving California with a one-way ticket to France to see a man I only knew for ten days. They were sure I lost my mind once I told them we were backpacking the world together to places like Africa and Thailand without money or plans. It was mad to them but I was following #MyMadness and as far out as it seems, it lead me to one of the most beautiful adventures of my life.
A few years later, we settled down and got married and were making more money than we knew what to do with. We were living what some call the 'American Dream' but it didn't feel like a dream. It happened again. Our madness was calling. Our hearts pulled us in a completely opposite direction and like always, we listened. We quit our jobs and sold everything to move into a 1973 Volkswagen Bus. We traded the comfort and security of a steady paycheck and benefits for a life of adventure, chasing the unknown. We wandered like hippies to nearly all 50 states of America and 7 in Canada. If we didn't follow our madness, I'd still be sitting at a desk all day and Jimmy would be sweating as a construction worker in the hot California sun.
Five years ago, I met the man who taught me how to follow my heart and looking back, I couldn't have found satisfaction any other way. This week, we launched our store on Wandxr.co selling clothing and prints of our favorite photos. I also published my first e-book "How To Afford Van Life" hoping to help others who want to achieve a similar dream. The best part is that a portion of our profits are donated to the environment, animals, and humanitarian causes. It's a dream come true. Sometimes the only sane thing to do is the very thing that makes you mad. Thank you Moosejaw for keeping us adventure ready with all the right gear.
